This has been one of my favourite songs for a long time, and though an old song, the message is powerful. I love the sentiments expressed, the desperation for an opportunity we let slip away. One hour, just one hour, to say all the things that should have been said. How many of us would like that opportunity, not just in love, but in life, the opportunity to make good what we were to afraid to do at the time? Carpe Diem, seize the day, or even that one moment and yet we don’t. Why do we let those golden moments go so easily? I asked my lead character in my novel but it seemed he was reluctant to answer.
Nico is facing an internal struggle. He has to admit to having made a mistake. If he can’t admit it to himself then he has no chance. He is an intelligent man at odds with a nature that demands he not explain himself and yet losing Lia, is a bigger price than he is prepared to pay. You can’t have it both ways.
This song took me straight to that battle zone. I remember listening to this and thinking that all the things Nico couldn’t say were right there in the music and in the words.
